The optimal trap for monitoring and catching the large pine weevil (Hylobius abietis)
The WitaTrap® weevil catching tube is for determining the existence of and for combating the large pine weevil. Only correctly designed traps guarantee the desired success in catching the weevil. The beetle is targeted and attracted by the pheromone rod. Using the entry lips, which are tapered inwards, it reaches the catching tube and can’t get back out again.

The trap has an opening at each end for maintenance.
The lids are easy to open and close.
There are two small openings on the bottom to ensure water can drain properly.

The ground at the selected site should be broken up to a depth of approx. 20 cm.
The Hylowit dispenser tubes are placed in the catching tubes.
The trap is pushed with the water-repellent end at the bottom into the loosened area until the
entry lips are touching the soil.
The trap is carefully adjusted, and the edges are sealed up with the earth. The holes for crawling
in must be kept clear. The remaining soil must be smoothed down.

Instructions for use:
Depending on the type of trap, add up to 250 ml of the bait liquid to the trap and hang or place it in a shady place. The location should be chosen so that the wasps are kept away from areas where they are not wanted. The effect of the bait lasts up to 3 weeks, depending on the weather-related evaporation, the type of trap used and the presence of wasps. The bait liquid must be renewed after 3 weeks at the latest, or sooner if the liquid level is too low or the number of wasps caught is too high.
Tip: The bait trap is most effective in late summer, when the number of wasps is highest. However, the effect is present throughout the entire flight period from June to October.
Trap placement:
Hang the trap with the bait liquid in a location where there is as little human movement as possible and where there is always constant air movement. Places with strong winds are closed
avoid. If the wasp catch is too small, place the trap in a different location for at least 2 days. Be careful when hanging the baited trap or when standing near it. The ideal application time is late in the evening or early in the morning, when the wasps are not yet or are not very active.
