WitaTrap® MultiCAM - Innovative Camera System for Pheromone Traps
Tracking pests the smart way with WitaTrap® MultiCAM.
Anyone monitoring invasive pests needs to know what’s in the trap—and they need to know it as soon as possible. Introducing the new WitaTrap® MultiCAM camera system for pheromone traps: it photographs the catch three times a day and sends the images directly to the Telegram app on your smartphone.
The high image resolution makes it easy to accurately identify the captured beetles
The system is designed for simplicity—just press the "ON" button, and it’s ready to go. Along with each high-resolution photo, you receive the current battery level and a GPS location (as a Google Maps link) on your phone. Power is provided by a rechargeable battery supported by a solar panel, and a screw-open base makes it easy to empty out the captured pests. To get started, all you need is a SIM card, which is activated for you by Witasek. The compact WitaTrap® MultiCAM system is compatible with the well-known WitaTrap® multi funnel trap (available in black or green) as well as the Wita®Prall cross-barrier trap from Witasek.
Here's how it works:
- High-resolution images sent directly to your smartphone 3 times a day
- Power: Rechargeable battery, supplemented by a solar panel
- Charging: USB-C port on the underside of the housing (compatible with power banks or wall outlets)
- Battery status indicator: Included with every image and also accessible on the exterior of the housing (displays the charge level at a touch)
- Emptying: Features a bayonet-style base—simply twist, remove the bottom section, and you’re done; the rest of the unit remains attached to the trap
- Weatherproof: Small drainage holes in the base allow rainwater to escape
Staying one step ahead of the pests
In times of limited staffing, this system saves you from unnecessary travel. You only need to make the trip to the site when a pest has actually been caught in the trap. The pine sawyer beetle trap (Monochamus galloprovincialis) also increases the likelihood of recovering live specimens for laboratory analysis. Previously, only dead beetles were typically recovered, as traps cannot be checked on a daily basis; however, M. galloprovincialis must be alive when tested for the presence of pine wood nematodes.
Developed from practical field experience: The EU Plant Health Regulation mandates that all member states conduct regular surveys for priority quarantine pests. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) supports this monitoring effort through "Pest Survey Cards." The list includes, among others, the Japanese beetle (Popillia japonica), the emerald ash borer (Agrilus planipennis), the pine sawyer beetle (Monochamus galloprovincialis), and the red-necked longhorn beetle (Aromia bungii). Witasek already offers the appropriate traps and all relevant pheromones for these species.
"When it comes to monitoring invasive species, every day counts," says Lukas Maier, Managing Director of the company. The WitaTrap® MultiCAM will be available starting in the spring of 2027, offered both as a standalone unit and as a complete kit including the trap and pheromone.
Availability: The WitaTrap® MultiCAM is now available for pre-order—either individually or as a set containing the trap and the corresponding pheromone.
